No, he didn't forget. You need to cultivate the ability to bend further than 90 degrees (squat "butt to heels") unless you have an injury preventing it.

The man uses a basic kettlebell -a ball of metal with a handle- most of the time, along with his own bodyweight. I don't know what you're talking about, to be honest. Not that there's anything wrong with using equipment, mind.
A "true warrior" utilizes that which he has access to to make him stronger, be it simple or complex. There's no ego. A "true warrior" looks for as many ways in which he can strengthen himself as possible, he doesn't discrimminate. Nothing wrong with his way, at all.
