I don't think its Davids voice isn't working on the song - I just think theres probably a clash of styles. Particularly when they're singing together and the vocals go quite high.David has a warm,rich,deep and soft tone and his vocals tend to get 'drowned out' a little.I must confess it sounds like a christmas song.Can imagine listening to it whilst at the window when the snow is falling.Really quite like it.Certainly different from Mr Batts norm...and yes it has Ryuichi written all over it.

This and Linoleum are my 2 favorite songs to hear David Sylvian's buttery rich tone - especially when he does the higher harmony at the end (Far Away/Time Will Pass)

I think its the difference in tone that makes this song work. David's voice is deep and worldly, Virginia's is innocent and ethereral. What is the hope for the world? Innocence or experience? I love this song.

I was join this session as a programmer 20 years ago. This song was
composed the day before David Sylvian recorded his vocal at the WoolHall
Studio at Bath in England. It is still beautiful song. Ryuichi was prove
himself as a very talented man.

Great song. It reminds me of Autumn and Christmas. I was a fanatical Japan and Sylvian fan in my youth. I remember getting the cassette tape of 'Some Small Hope' and endlessly playing it for my girlfriend at the time. Embarrassing.
