I love this skit. From what I've read, this was a routine that Steve Martin had only done for close friends. He did it for Johnny, though, in his last week as Tonight Show host.
Carson was the one and only, forever the King of Late Night. I really pity folks too young to remember him. He was so brilliant, so fantastic. Jay Leno and Letterman are just a shadow of his amazing talent.
