Its def overfilled, look at the oil level in the "b roll" part...Also, the bird is supposed to be fully thawed. On top of it all, they basically drop the bird in there...you have to lower it very slowly

I thought that it'd taste weird before I tried it, but if you do it right, they are absolutely delicious. I love turkey in the oven and I adore fried turkey, but the spices make all the difference in the world.

Yes, deep frying a turkey can be very dangerous--if you are a complete idiot!!
"It looks like our partially frozen turkey is ready". NO it is not. It must be completely thawed and dry before dropping it in hot oil. This video should have spent more time showing how to do it correctly and safely, not just to scare people away from trying it. I have cooked many turkeys in my time and I have done it many different ways.
Frying is by far the tastiest.

Here is how to do it correctly.
First, put the raw turkey in the pot and fill with water until it is 2 inches over the turkey. Then take the turkey out and note the water level. Now dry out both the turkey and the pot.
Prepare the turkey by rubbing with spices and injecting with marinade. Let it dry.
Fill the pot with oil to the same level as the water was without the turkey. Heat to 325 F.
SLOWLY lower the turkey into the hot oil. Keep the temp steady. Cook for 3 minutes per pound of turkey.
Oh yeah, one more ... ( 1 month ago by arcdude7734)
Oh yeah, one more thing.
Do NOT push the pot over while the oil is hot. In fact, keep everyone away from the pot until it has cooled.
What an idiot!!

This is why Southerners make fun of "Yankees". It takes 2 Fully clothed firemen with helmets to cook a deep fried turkey? I've seen it done by a 12 year old kid with one arm wearing shorts, a tank top, and flip flops do the same thing...and it was damn tasty if I might add.

If you're smart about it, it's pretty safe and I must agree it's mighty tasty! Southern food is indeed delicious, my favorite is Chicken Fried Steak.

This video was put ... ( 3 weeks ago by voiceofkrull)
This video was put out by UL (Underwriters Laboratories), a private safety resting firm. For all you naysayers, all this video is saying is that turkey fryers are inherently dangerous due to certain design decisions, and because of this, UL refuses to certify them. By all means, continue to deep fry your turkeys! Just watch out for those heart attacks...
oil level was to ... ( 3 weeks ago by way2fasst)
oil level was to high and the turkey has to be complety dry, and it won't sizzle up to bad, tall pot, low level of oil and the proper tempature and its pretty safe i cook about 14 turkey's and and some goose and i have learned to very important things appropiate temputure, and a dry bird helps alot
UL refuses to ... ( 2 weeks ago by OPE08)
UL refuses to certify fryers, not because they are "inherently unsafe, which they are not; but because they would have to open themselves to liability risks. ANY product that brings together flammables with ignitions sources has a certain amount of risk, whic is always minimised by safety proceedures. UL is not, by the way, infallible, and they've grown lazy over the past decade or so.
Also, turkey's soak up only tiny amounts of oil when fried, and peanut oil is relatively "heart friendly".
