"It looks like our partially frozen turkey is ready". NO it is not. It must be completely thawed and dry before dropping it in hot oil. This video should have spent more time showing how to do it correctly and safely, not just to scare people away from trying it. I have cooked many turkeys in my time and I have done it many different ways.
Frying is by far the tastiest.
First, put the raw turkey in the pot and fill with water until it is 2 inches over the turkey. Then take the turkey out and note the water level. Now dry out both the turkey and the pot.
Prepare the turkey by rubbing with spices and injecting with marinade. Let it dry.
Fill the pot with oil to the same level as the water was without the turkey. Heat to 325 F.
SLOWLY lower the turkey into the hot oil. Keep the temp steady. Cook for 3 minutes per pound of turkey.
Do NOT push the pot over while the oil is hot. In fact, keep everyone away from the pot until it has cooled.
What an idiot!!
Signed, some Canadian dude.
and there is always a warning about makin sure the turkey is defrosted.
just be safe.
Also, turkey's soak up only tiny amounts of oil when fried, and peanut oil is relatively "heart friendly".
