Cyclone Sidr Disaster - Helping Kids with Save the Children

Cyclone Sidr Disaster - Helping Kids with Save the Children

Uploaded by: UnculturedProject
Video Description:
On my third day in the Bagerhat disaster area caused by Cyclone Sidr, I teamed up with Nick Downie from Save the Children. We went to a remote region that could only be reached by boat. I brought some blankets (which I bought with my own money) to give away to the poorest of the poor. In addition, we also collected water samples from various areas to see if water filters could be attached to provide clean water for the locals.
This video is not recommended for young children.

I really don't know what to say. You're truly an angel and when I saw the smiles on the faces of thise children I couldn't stop crying. The video was really very nicely done and is bound to touch a few hearts out there. Thanks a lot for all your efforts. Your kindness and generosity really means a lot to us.
I am REALLY ... ( 11 months ago by UnculturedProject)
I am REALLY flattered by your comment. But, there are LOTS of people who try and help those in need. They just don't usually film their stuff and share it.
Hopefully, these videos can inspire others to try and make the world a slightly better place.

Lyndsey, I know you made this comment a while ago - but I just wanted to say how what you wrote really means a lot.
In fact, I recently wrote to Nick and mentioned this comment to him. There have been many times when I've kind of felt like I was in a slump - and I would read this comment and know I'm touching lives both here and abroad :-)

Ah Shawn your going to make me cry again!
I'm not joking when I say this video changed my Christmas. I spent allot less on presents for extended family and gave what I saved to StC... I wanted to pay for my blankets! I felt ten times more festive afterwards, and because of your videos I knew my money was going to a good place. Thanks x

Hey bossman, so far I've been avoiding asking for donations. I'm just trying to inspire and inform - and a lot of people tune out if there is a request for money.
I might setup a paypal or something down the road - if I do I will let you know :-)
You can also donate to Save the Children - as you can see they do AMAZING work.

My boyfriend is Bangladeshi, so we donated money together to the Save the Children cyclone fund there. I imagine even months later that there's still work to be done. I'm a big believer in Save the Children and have been a donor for years, so, as you've seen first hand...it's a great organization for you to recommend people donate to. Keep up the great work!

I found when I brought pencils and colouring supplies plus a HUGE book of construction paper to a remote school in Dominican Republic it felt the same, the children don't look grateful they look scared/surprised, but its really frightening to put yourselves in those shoes, how could you possibly show joy to a foreigner who you know has so much more than you ever will.

Hey Eddy, oh ... ( 8 months ago by UnculturedProject)
Hey Eddy, oh everyone knew that they shouldn't be buried there. But things were SOOO bad that was the only place they could be buried. Everything else was like a bomb had gone off - nothing but devastation.
Not only was it next to a stream of water - it was also right next to their slum housing. So you had the smell of rotting shallow graves right next to your sleeping area. THAT'S how bad it was there.

Words are not ... ( 7 months ago by VeiledMuslimWoman)
Words are not enough to describe the feeling of seeing oprhans by the hundreds....and words are not enough to express the grtfulness to people like you my brother. A blanket is to us nothing of much importance but to these children, its value is huge. jazakilah khair ameen.

Sometimes it seems like the horrors in the news, although not fake exactly, they seem far away and disconnected. You show how real these things are, and how just donating a little thing like a blanket can make a person live a happier life. So thanks.
I get chills ... ( 4 months ago by tawsifc)
I get chills watching your videos! I saw almost all of them.I think you are doing a great job. Its so scary how the people of my own country, where I was born, are living. It makes me feel angry and sick to the stomach thinking this is the people of my country. I hope it gets better and quick. I am so glad I moved to the usa when I was 9.
partly this poverty ... ( 4 months ago by killerbunny132)
partly this poverty is because the bangladeshi politicians are a bunch of selfish tools who stole from the government for their own gains and not to help these poor people.

Wow,
The looks on some of the Children's faces - as they received blankets bigger than they were!
Really great work Shawn - thank you for your incredible kindness
