i agree with KingCollun. i did Eng Lang at A Level. The words we use are come from Latin (roman invasion), French (the norman invasion), partially german because English is part of teh Germanic branch of languages.
Artemis are you saying that the words we use ARE NOT latin? or french? (not greek btw its not greek or has any common words from greek)

Sorry i'd like to rephrase that! Basically Germanic branch of the IndoEuropeon language is Old Norse and Saxon. So German is hte closest related language to English. Latin has influenced English cos of the Roman invasion AND the Christian campaign gave us the Latin Alphabet. The Norman Invasion led to a lot of French words enterting out language.
In other words English was influenced by many languages. While the Base is German Latin has shaped a lot of the language. E.g. the -s plural.
